Skinny Girl Eats // Honolulu, Hawaii

These are my top 5 eats from my trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.

This list goes from my fifth favorite spot to my favorite spot.

Wailana Coffee House
1860 Ala Moana Blvd.
Honolulu, HI 96815
Wailana Coffee House is the kind of place locals eat at and the kind of place tourists skim past.

And to be honest, I, as a tourist, would have skimmed it too. However, my co-worker, who lived in Hawaii most of her life, recommended this place before I left on my vacation. On top of that, since she was pretty serious about me trying this place out, she even reminded me while I was in Hawaii.

It's an ugly place. I don't doubt that.

But, don't judge this joint by their lackluster exterior and interior.
Rather, judge them by their melt-in-your-mouth and super fluffy buttermilk pancakes. They will cost you under 8 bucks and you will be full. I repeat, you will be busting-out-of-your bikini-full. You know, the kind of full that makes you not want to do anything else for the rest of the day. Yeah, that kind of full.

But of course, despite being this full, my fat-ass had to also eat the Hawaiian Style Breakfast. The Hawaiian Style breakfast includes two eggs, toast, two grilled bananas and a more than generous serving of corned beef hash.

I asked myself why I put myself through such torture. That was only afterwards, of course.
And before I forget... It is of the utmost importance to drench the pancakes in the coconut syrup.

Ramen Bario
2250 Kalakaua Ave.
Honolulu, HI 96815
The broth hits you with so many levels of flavor. The best way to explain it is a firework of exploding zest, savoriness, aroma, acidity, saltiness and tang. The fat from the broth and the sliced pork literally melts in your mouth. In addition, the fat adds an unexpected and strong sensation of buttery creaminess.

The bean sprouts are a perfect contrast to the deep and oily flavors. The sprouts add a fresh, earthy, and crunchy element. After all, food is a play on contrasting ideas. And this ramen not only plays on contradicting ideas but, it most importantly, plays with your taste buds.
